The Mega Mall Aquarium in Kaunas, Lithuania opened to the public on December 1st, 2005.
The 102,000-square-meter shopping centre is the second-largest mall in the Baltics.
As malls evolve into mixed-use precincts with recreational, educational and themed attractions, shopping-centre-based aquariums are popular with families and drive retail foot traffic.
MEGA’s 10-metre-hight aquarium – reportedly the tallest in the Baltic region – is just over 3 metres wide and contains 300,000 litres of water.
The large viewing panels contain over 60 tonnes of acrylic.
The tank is home to 1,600 marine inhabitants, including black-tip reef sharks.
