Project Overview

The building’s architecture was inspired by circulating whirlpool currents and a desire to completely match the aquariums structure with its unique location. Upon arrival, visitors step into the vortex of the whirlpool, travel round the lobby and then walk through the spiral towards the 53 aquariums and exhibits. The remarkable new facility was designed to give an estimated 700,000 visitors a year a greater under water experience.

Advanced Aquarium Technologies was contracted to provide all aquarium specialist design and construction services. This included designing and integrated state of the art life support systems, small and large aquariums, acrylic viewing panels, tunnel designs, and installation of rockwork, scenery and specialist waterproofing.
