Sea Life Kelly Tarlton’s Tunnel Refurbishment, Auckland, New Zealand.

Advanced Aquarium Technologies (AAT) helps refurbish the world's first acrylic aquarium viewing tunnel.

Project Overview

When it opened in 1985, SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton’s Aquarium (then known as Kelly Tarlton’s Underwater World) featured the world’s first underwater aquarium viewing tunnel.

In 2008, AAT was engaged to refurbish the tunnel’s acrylic.

The project involved removing panels from the 110-meter tunnel for polishing, re-sizing them and then re-installing the sections.

AAT also repaired damaged waterproofing in a number of areas.

The team of twelve AAT personnel was delighted to have had an opportunity to restore this iconic piece of aquarium industry history.
