Wild Life Sydney Zoo undertook a comprehensive redesign and refurbishment of its crocodile exhibit to enhance animal welfare outcomes and strengthen visitor engagement.
Overall design changes included a new entry/ exit ramp installed immediately adjacent to the main window to keep the croc comfortable and to improve the viewing experience for visitors.
AAT provided specialist guidance on several design concepts to help achieve an effective outcome.
Aging glass panels recessed into multiple mullions were removed and replaced with larger and clearer acrylic panels.
AAT’s acrylic allows for extraordinary, crystal clear, close-up views.
The new design improved the functionality of the exhibit especially in relation to animal movement and behaviour.
AAT supplied seven acrylic panels including a curved demi-tunnel and a large, 360-degree cylinder. Viewing panels were fabricated at AAT Acrylic production facilities in Australia and China, ensuring a fast turnaround.
Four acrylic installers worked over 5 days to get the project completed in time for the launch of the new experience.
The new exhibit also attracted third-party media coverage and publicity, such as this article in The Daily Telegraph.
‘Rocky’ the crocodile is now well established as one of the “Aussie Big 5!” at Wild Life Sydney Zoo, alongside the koala, kangaroo, and wombat experiences on offer.
