Most aquarium visitors under-estimate how much space in an aquarium is dedicated to back-of-house facilities.
These spaces include all manner of equipment and facilities such as Life Support Systems that keep the water clean, safe, and flowing; quarantine and veterinary facilities; breeding and storage tanks and food preparation zones, to name but a few.
The team at Dubai Aquarium realized that some of these back-of-house facilities and activities lend themselves to interesting and educational experiences for visitors.
So, we were delighted to be appointed to help design, manufacture, and supply a ‘behind the scenes’ tour experience including coral growing tanks, sea horse breeding, sea jelly tanks, a bamboo shark tank, and equipment for aquaculture demonstration facilitation as well as three skid-mounted life support systems.
The Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo is a signature attraction at The Dubai Mall, the world’s second-largest shopping centre by land area and the most-visited shopping and leisure destination on Earth (84 million shoppers in 2019).
With 33,000 animals, world-recording-breaking viewing panels, a 270-degree walkthrough tunnel and an underwater zoo, the aquarium is exceptional.
