AAT AQUARIUM AT GATEWAY TO BARRIER REEF

Whitsunday Council engaged AAT to design, manufacture and install an aquarium located in the Arrivals & Departures lounge of the Whitsunday Coast Airport.

The Aquarium features a 30,000 litre water capacity encompassing over 100 different species, is 10m long and boasts 4 tonnes of moulded coral.

A unique heart-shaped rock work representing the heart of the reef is already entertaining and capturing the hearts of jet-setters stopping by the world famous tourist destination and is sure to continue to do so for many years to come. The Whitsundays attracts over 600,000 visitors annually as the gateway to Hamilton Island and the Great Barrier Reef.

Whitsunday Mayor Andrew Willcox was in attendance as was AAT CEO John Langmead for the official opening of the aquarium.

AAT have stationed a team at the airport to manage operations of the aquarium moving forward.
